1. EA Sports' new Madden NFL 22 video game showcases local Orlando rappers including Moe, Kuttem Reese, and Tyla Yaweh. The Madden soundtrack is now available on all streaming platforms. The inclusion could be a big break for the artists that already have their own following. (Orlando Weekly)
2. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has appealed a judge’s ruling that he exceeded his authority in ordering school boards not to impose strict mask requirements on students to combat the spread of COVID-19. DeSantis wants the appeals court to reverse last week’s decision by Leon County Circuit Judge John C. Cooper. (AP News)
3. University of Central Florida (UCF) rallied to beat Boise State 36-31 on Thursday night in a college football game that was delayed by almost three hours due to lightning-caused delays. The game was the debut of new head coaches for UCF which will host Bethune-Cookman next on Saturday, September 11th. (Fox 35 Orlando)
4. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced that the new Walt Disney World specialty license plate is now available at tax collector offices and license plate agencies statewide. More than 10,000 presale vouchers have already been purchased by Floridians. Revenue from the sales will be distributed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida. (WFTV)
5. The iconic flying saucer on top of Skycraft Parts and Surplus in Winter Park is being relocated to a new store at 5021 Edgewater Drive in Orlando. It first landed in Winter Park in 1974 and has been refurbished multiple times over the decades. The Orlando Skycraft location will have a reopening party on September 7th. (Spectrum News 13)
