Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.
This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Orlando. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.
Memorial Day Ceremony
When: Friday, May 24 - 11:00 a.m.

What: The Orlando VA Healthcare System, in collaboration with the Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation, will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at the amphitheater near the rear entrance of the Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona. The ceremony will honor the courageous individuals who have served and sacrificed for the United States Armed Forces, with Marine Corps Major General James S. Hartsell delivering the keynote address.

The 33rd Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival

Remember & Honor - Memorial Day 5k
When: Saturday, May 25 - 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.

What: The Remember & Honor - Memorial Day 5k is a family-friendly walk or fun run set against the backdrop of the picturesque Grande Lakes resort. Participants will traverse the back 9 of the championship golf course, followed by post-race refreshments along with stretching and massages. Registration includes an exclusive T-shirt, medal, goodie bag and entry into a raffle for spa treatments and gift bags.

Orlando Carnival Downtown
