1. Small businesses in Orlando are bracing for rent increases that could significantly impact operations after surviving pandemic woes. In 2020, commercial rent in Orlando rose approximately 4.5% annually. This year, the numbers show industrial rent has gone up 11.2% with only a 3% vacancy rate, squeezing businesses. (Click Orlando)

2. YH Seafood Clubhouse, specializing in seafood, opened at Phillips Crossing at 8081 Turkey Lake Road on Friday. The restaurant is modeled after Fishman Lobster Clubhouse, a Toronto seafood house known for platters of lobster and crab. The restaurant also sells dim sum and Cantonese cuisine. (Orlando Weekly)

3. The Brevard Zoo is asking Central Florida to help choose a new name for the road leading into the zoo after enlisting the help of the students from Brevard Public Schools. Students from 24 schools sent in 24 options for the road that leads visitors from Wickham Road into the zoo. The top 3 choices are Animal Adventure Avenue, Discovery Drive, and Wildlife Way. (WFTV)

4. Two Florida men of The Villages in Central Florida confessed to committing voter fraud by voting twice in the 2020 presidential elections. Their plea deals spared them a sentence of up to 5 years in prison for the third-degree felony. (Orlando Weekly)

5. Orange County healthcare providers are ordering more meningitis vaccines as the outbreak in Florida continues. The CDC says the best prevention against meningitis is getting vaccinated. Six meningitis cases is the most this area has seen in five years. (WMFE)

  • “Breaking Bad” costars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be visiting Orlando on Wednesday, May 4, to sign bottles of their award-winning liquor brand, Dos Hombres Mezcal. (Bungalower)
  • Orlando Fire Department sadly has announced the passing of Orlando Fire Lieutenant Anthony Felix. Condolences to his family and friends, his crew at Station 4, and the rest of the department who he served alongside since 2003. (Facebook)
