Escort for Fallen Soldier to Pass Through Palm Harbor Monday

The escort for Army Spc. Zachary L. Shannon, 21, of Dunedin, will travel on County Road 1 and Curlew Road to Palm Harbor's Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Monday for a private service. Shannon was killed in a helicopter crash.

The public will be able to pay tribute to fallen soldier Army Spc. Zachary L. Shannon as his remains travel through Palm Harbor by official escort to Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor. The escort can be observed from the sidewalks along the route. The escort could also cause traffic delays in the area.

Shannon, 21, of Dunedin, died March 11 in a helicopter crash near Kandahar, Afghanistan.

His remains will arrive at MacDill Air Force Base at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning. The remains will leave the base at 11:15 a.m. to travel through Tampa and cross the Courtney Campbell Causeway and turn north onto McMullen Booth Road. The escort will travel east on SR 580, north on Pinehurst Road, east on Michigan Boulevard, North on County Road 1 and then east on Curlew Road to Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, which is located at 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor.

The service will be private, at the family's request, according to Curlew Hills Memory Garden's website. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Dunedin High School ROTC program.
