Largo Man Killed Running Across U.S. 19; Driver Charged With DUI

A 33-year-old Holiday man has been charged with driving under the influence after hitting and killing a man with his car on U.S. 19.

PALM HARBOR, FL — A 33-year-old Holiday man has been charged with driving under the influence after hitting and killing a man with his car on U.S. 19 south of Innisbrook Drive.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Cheddy Herland Lewis was heading south on U.S. 19 when a 40-year-old man from Largo began to run across the highway and into the path of Lewis' car.

The Largo man died at the scene.

Lewis fled following the crash but Pinellas County deputies caught up with him at Alderman and Belcher roads minutes later.

He was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail where additional charges are pending.
