Palm Harbor Land Annexed to Tarpon Springs for Wawa Store?

A 0.9-acre lot has been annexed to Tarpon Springs to possibly make way for another Wawa store in the Bay area.

A 0.9-acre plot of land in unincorporated Palm Harbor has been annexed into Tarpon Springs to possibly make way for a new Wawa convenient store.

"The current property owner and the company that desires to purchase and redevelop the property at the southwest corner of the intersection of US Highway 19 and Klosterman Road have requested that the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approve annexation of this property by the City of Tarpon Springs," said county documents.

Pinellas County Commissioners approved the measure this week.

While county documents show the store will probably be a Wawa, according to the Beacon Leader, no official announcement has been made.

Wawa has not yet made a public announcement of plans to build in Tarpon Springs and Tarpon Springs is not listed as a future location on its website, www.wawa.com. Four stores have recently opened in Tampa Bay, including one in Pinellas Park.

"Since the subject property would remain within the Palm Harbor Fire District," according to county documents, "its annexation should not affect property taxes collected by the Fire District. Annexation, however, would result in the Palm Harbor Community Services Agency and the MSTU no longer receiving tax revenue from the subject property."
