Sheriff: SnapChat Can Lead to 'Sexting'

SnapChat enables users to send out images and video that self-destruct seconds after being viewed.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is raising concerns about a popular app that allows users to share images and quick videos that disappear after 10 seconds.

The app, which is popular with teenagers, may be used for sending or receiving nude and/or lewd photos, since the text "self destructs" immediately after viewing, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office is not telling families to ban the use of SnapChat. But they are encouraging parents to talk with their children about the potential danger and harm in misusing the application.

A "tech alert" was issued by the Sheriff's Office.
