Toxic Chemical Spill Shuts Down Belcher Road, Nebraska Avenue; Hazmat Crews Called

Hazardous materials crews were called to clean up a toxic chemical spill at the intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue.

PALM HARBOR, FL — The intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue has reopened following a chemical spill.

Pinellas County sheriff's hazardous materials crews were called to clean up a toxic chemical spill at the intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue.

The spill occurred Friday at 11:18 a.m. when a sports utility vehicle driven by a 67-year-old Palm Harbor man collided with a pool company truck, driven by a 23-year-old Largo man, spilling 50 gallons of chlorine and two gallons of muriatic acid in the road. No waterways were impacted.

The 23-year-old was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
