The authentic Cuban is a hot item at a number of spots on the Pinellas beaches. Here are a few suggestions. Bring your appetite!
- Billy’s Stonecrab, Seafood and Steaks, 1 Collany Road, Tierra Verde
Enjoy a waterfront view from Billy’s and indulge in the fresh Pressed Cuban sandwich for $7.95. Billy’s Pressed Cuban is made traditionally with Cuban bread. Roasted pork and ham are piled high and complemented with pickles and a splash of mustard. Of course, the sandwich wouldn’t be complete without some Swiss cheese and a side of potato chips.
- Bella Habana, 5905 Gulf Boulevard, St. Pete BeachÂ
For $8, enjoy an original favorite from the people who know it best. Bella Habana on St. Pete Beach specializes in Cuban cuisine. This makes it a must-try destination for lovers of the Cuban sandwich. Bella Habana uses smoked ham, roasted pork, pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard between two slices of freshly baked Cuban bread. It’s pressed and served hot with french fries.
- Sloppy Joe’s, 10650 Gulf Boulevard, Treasure Island
Sloppy Joe’s version of the Cuban is accurately named the Havana Sandwich. The added taste from Sloppy’s Havana Sandwich comes from a few extra ingredients. Salami is thrown in the mix of roasted pork, ham and swiss cheese. Along with pickles, onions are added to give it a kick. The plate is served with black beans and rice and goes for $8.99.
