Minor League Phillies Player Involved In Crash With $20,000 Damage

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — A minor league baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies has been charged with driving under the influence with property damage after crashing into a wall at a high rate of speed Saturday night.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies spotted 23-year-old Konnor Thomas Ash at about 8:50 p.m. driving at fast speeds west on the Belleair Causeway.

Shortly after losing sight of him, deputies heard a crash. When they arrived at the crash scene, they found that Ash's vehicle struck a Florida Department of Transportation speed limit sign and a wall near the intersection of Indian Rocks Road and West Bay Drive in Belleair Bluffs, causing an estimated $20,000 in damages.

According to deputies, Ash was sitting just outside the open driver's side door with cuts and bruises on his face.

Deputies said he displayed signs of impairment including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech and a distinct odor of alcohol on his breath. Ash refused to provide a blood sample.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and then taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
