OMG! Will Florida Ban Texting While Driving?

The Florida Senate unanimously passed a bill to make it illegal to drive while texting. But there is a catch.

Warning, do not text the following news to friends or colleagues: Florida may soon make it illegal to text while driving.

On Tuesday, April 16, the Florida Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 52, according to the Bradenton Herald. First-time violators face a $30 fine plus court costs. Subsequent offenses would penalize drivers with three points on their driver license and include a $60 fine.

But there is a catch: A Senate bill would ban the practice as a "secondary offense," meaning that violators first must be stopped for another offense.
