Local surfers know the phone number by heart, and it all started at one of the Pinellas beaches' favorite shops.
Suncoast Surf Shop is one of the area's oldest surf shops. It began in 1966 when founder Joe Nuzzo started out with a few boards for sale. Now the shop is known up and down the Gulf Coast of Florida.
"Joe's Surf Report" is a voice recording updated almost every day, depending on the weather conditions. Surfers can call the number and get the daily rundown of what to expect as far as ridability goes.
The number is (727)-363-SURF (7873). Surfers along the Pinellas beaches have the phone number engraved in their brains. The surf report has been around for years, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see it survive for decades to come.
