Please Your Senses at Madeira Beach’s Newest Addition
A new business known as Please the Senses opened last month and offers everything from wine to essential oils.
Please the Senses opened on Nov. 11 and continues to grow in popularity. Owner Katie Brown says that she is an avid supporter of all things local. Most products in the store, at 15004 Madeira Way, Madeira Beach, are from local vendors.
“We try to keep things as local as we can,” said Brown.
After working in sales, Brown went in to the loan department at the Hyatt, where she remained for seven years. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to branch out on her own to combine business with pleasure.
Brown and her daughter run the shop together as the only two employees. She says that opening the store was something she decided and then went for. “One day I just thought ‘I’m going to do it,’ and then I did,” Brown said.
Brown’s personal use of essential oils and teas drove her desire to open a business. She sells a lot of teas, oils and locally made soaps. “I have really sensitive skin, so I gravitated towards all things natural,” Brown explained.
Among the oils and teas, there also lies a slew of other products. Candles, soaps, incense and even wine is for sale at Please the Senses.
“I always thought this was something that was needed on this side of town,” said Brown.
Every Friday night, Please the Senses hosts a wine tasting in the store. The weekly event runs from 5-6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Guests can shop and taste a few of the many wines for sale.
Brown plans on keeping Please the Senses in its current location, but she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of opening a second shop elsewhere. “For now, we’ll stay here but we may expand in the future,” said Brown.
