Broward School Board supports closing seven of nine proposed schools (sun-sentinel.com) — Plantation families face major changes as Broward schools back a plan to close Plantation Middle and shift its students into Plantation High, turning it into a combined 6–12 campus next school year. Confronting a nearly $95 million budget shortfall and steep enrollment declines, the School Board also supports closing several other Broward schools, with final decisions expected in January.
   

2. Plantation Neighborhood Dispute Involving Juveniles Escalates to Gunfire as Nearby Middle School Is Briefly Locked Down (hoodline.com) — A juvenile was shot during a dispute on Northwest 16th Street near Plantation Middle School, prompting a 30-minute precautionary lockdown at the campus. Police say the after-school incident did not occur on school grounds, and the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening as detectives continue investigating and plan to release more details.
   

3. Publix-Anchored South Florida Shopping Center Sells for $53M (commercialobserver.com) — A major local retail hub, Jacaranda Plaza in central Plantation, just sold for $53 million, underscoring strong investor demand for grocery-anchored centers. The Publix-anchored plaza near North University Drive and Sunrise Boulevard is 97.5% leased, keeping familiar tenants like Ross, Five Below, Planet Fitness, and Dollar Tree in a center that remains a key part of Plantation’s shopping landscape.
   

4. Monday's Florida Lottery hits: Fantasy 5, $1 million Powerball, Cash4Life wins (miamiherald.com) — A Fantasy 5 ticket sold at the 7-Eleven on North State Road 7 in Plantation hit a $110,305 jackpot in Monday’s drawing. While other big wins landed in Stuart and Pompano Beach, this Plantation ticket must be redeemed at a Florida Lottery district or main office, where appointments are optional.
   

5. Postal worker accused of involvement in $600K credit card theft scheme in South Florida (cbs12.com) — Federal investigators say a large credit card theft scheme tied to a West Palm Beach mail center also involved a suspicious package intercepted at a FedEx facility in Plantation, containing hundreds of credit cards. A postal worker and an alleged accomplice now face federal charges and possible prison time, after agents reportedly found hundreds of stolen mail pieces in their vehicle.
