14-Year-Old Threatened Shooting At FL Middle School: Pinellas Sheriff

A 14-year-old was arrested Tuesday after threatening a shooting at Safety Harbor Middle School, the Pinellas County Sheriff's office said.

SAFETY HARBOR, FL β€” A 14-year-old was arrested Tuesday after threatening a shooting at Safety Harbor Middle School, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The teen sent a message to another student using Snapchat that read, β€œI’m shooting school up tomorrow.”

When they contacted the child, they admitted to sending the message but said it was a joke, the sheriff’s office said.

The teen was charged with one count of making written threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting.

Though the student has been named by the sheriff’s office, it’s Patch policy to only publicly name minors who are charged as an adult. It’s not clear whether they were charged as an adult or a juvenile.
