As Polls Close, Commission Candidates Head Out To Await Results

The three Safety Harbor City Commission candidates spent a full day visiting area voting precincts; now all they can do is watch and wait.

As the polls closed in Safety Harbor, Bobby Saltzman, Richard Blake and Ray Irvin left their posts in front of the library and headed to various spots to await the results.

Last minute voters were still trickling into Precinct 606/613 as of 7:00, but traffic was slower than expected on the heels of this morning's rush.

"I'm surprised it's not busier," candidateΒ Saltzman admitted before heading off to grab a bite to eat.

Zee Johnson of nearby 10th Place rushed to the poll as soon as she could drop her two babies off with their father, arriving at twenty minutes til 7:00.

But after requesting a change of address online, she was temporarily turned away at the precinct because she didn't have the proper information necessary for a provisional ballot.

"Everything is working against me," she admitted. "But I'm gonna go home and come back with the right stuff."

Sure enough Johnson returned just before the polls closed. Twenty minutes later she exited wearing an "I Voted" sticker.

"I knew it would work out," she smiled as she drove away.

All that's left now is for the candidates - and voters - is watch the results. Β

"We did our best. Now we'll see what happens," Irvin said.
