Bayshore Boulevard Construction Enters Final Phase
Work has begun on Veterans Memorial Lane, and the project should be completed by the middle of the month.
For months, traffic has been slowed and diverted from sections of Bayshore Boulevard as a multimillion-dollar drainage project took place along the busy thoroughfare.
Now the project has entered its final phase, as crews have begun to repair sections of Veterans Memorial Lane.
"They started Veterans (Lane) a few weeks back and hope to finish it up today and tomorrow," City Manager Matt Spoor said Thursday via email.

"We are told 90 percent of the work should be completed by the 12/15 deadline, including sidewalks."
The project encountered delays caused by Republican National Convention delegates staying at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa as well as other problems.

Those setbacks pushed the completion of the project back a month from its initial time frame, an issue that could be addressed with fines being levied on the contractor.
"The fines could begin on December 16th," Spoor said. "It depends on what is not completed and why," he said.
