Bones on Bayshore? Patch Digs For an Answer to This Mystery
Reports recently surfaced that bones were found during the digging on Bayshore Boulevard. What kind of bones were they, and how did they get there? We aim to find out.
While much of the town was preoccupied with the All British Autojumble, among other events, this weekend word started to leak out about an interesting discovery nearby on Bayshore Boulevard.
βThey are doing the construction down by the Spa they found human bones,β read the message I found in my inbox from a devoted Patch supporter late Friday afternoon.

Another person mentioned something of the same nature later in the evening, and a follow up email from my original source implied the bones were possibly archeological in nature.
βJust talked to the city it was a human arm boneΒ that they found and (they) think it is Indian or Spanish settlers. Interesting.β

Needless to say that piqued my curiosity, so I decided to dig a little further into the matter.
A message to the public works department sent a string of emails through City Hall, with responses ranging from βIβm not aware of anythingβ by PW director Ray Boler to this reply from capital projects manager Bill Baker:
βThere was aΒ boneΒ a couple of weeks ago that turned out to be an animalΒ bone. There is no otherΒ bone known to either the city or the contractor.β
The plot thickensβ¦Β
Determined to get to the bottom of the Bayshore bone matter, I knew I had to trek out to the scene and find out what the contractors knew.Β
On Monday afternoon, while removing stone outside the Spa, site supervisor Ryan from Steveβs Excavating ended the mystery.
βWe found a deer bone a while back, but that was about a month ago,β Ryan admitted.
When pressed if he had heard about a possible human bone being discovered on the site on Friday, the good-natured Ryan scoffed.
"Nah, the city asked me something about that today, but I haven't seen anything like that, and I've been here all weekend."
βIβve found a lot of old bricks, and that front part of a deer leg, but no human bones, nothing like that,β he added.Β
So there you have it. Mystery solved. OrΒ is it?Β
Whatβs that? How did the bone get there in the first place, and how did the rumor get started that it was a human bone? Excellent questions, perhaps deserving of further investigation over this upcoming Halloween holiday...
