Curtis McCoy II Named Safety Harbor Volunteer of the Year
The longtime code enforcement board member is also a founding board member of the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center
Curtis McCoy, II, a longtime code enforcement board member and a founding board member of the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center, was named the 2012 Safety Harbor Volunteer of the Year on Monday night.
The award is given by city staff to board members whom they "felt exemplified extraordinary caring and commitment to the City and the boards they served on", according to the proclamation read by Mayor Joe Ayoub.
"Curtis McCoy has volunteered on the Code Enforcement board since November 2001," Mayor Ayoub read. "He currently serves as the vice chairman and consistently keeps every situation in proper perspective."

"Curtis displays a strong personal commitment to maintaining the quality of life for all citizens of Safety Harbor...Staff has said over and over that one of the qualities they admire most in Curtis is his loyalty to our city."
Before receiving his key to the city and gift certificate for an all expense paid dinner for eight at Bonefish Grill, McCoy expressed gratitude at winning the award over the other six candidates.

"I'd like to thank the commission and all the staff, and I accept this honor for all of those who volunteer. This city's full of people that volunteer," he said.
"I was born and raised in Pinellas County and I've been coming to Safety Harbor for 68 years," he added. "Safety Harbor is a beautiful place to raise a family. Safety Harbor builds wholesome families and not broken homes."
"Those are the kind of things that make Safety Harbor a premier place to live in Pinellas County, and I appreciate this honor."
Janet Hooper, director of the Mattie Williams center, had noting but high praise for Mr. McCoy's tireless work for the city.
"Curtis McCoy is a founding board member of the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center and has served on its Board of Directors since its inception in 1996," Hooper wrote via email.
"His passion and commitment to the residents of our great community is unequaled. We are grateful to him for his service and applaud the City for recognizing his contributions to Safety Harbor."
