Danny Donovan Tribute Tonight at City Park

The Celebration of Life ceremony for the late Safety Harbor Little League volunteer will begin at 7 p.m.

Danny Donovan, a longtime Safety Harbor Little League volunteer who passed away at City Park last week, will receive a tribute in his honor tonight at the place he loved most.

Beginning at 7 p.m. at the park’s concession stands, Little League and city officials will honor Donovan with a special ceremony, according to SHLL board member Eric Burks.

“The Celebration of Life will be at 7 p.m. Friday evening, rain or shine, at the concession stand area of City Park,” Burks wrote via email.

“It is expected to draw quite a crowd...and the program will last about 30 minutes.”

Donovan, who had worked tirelessly for the league for more than 20 years, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 11.

According to the police report of the incident, fellow Little League official Jason Patterson found Donovan in a dugout shortly after arriving at the field at around 5 p.m.

After calling 9-1-1, Safety Harbor Fire Department paramedics arrived and declared Donovan deceased.  Officials believe Donovan, 58, died of natural causes.

Last week Safety Harbor City Manager Matt Spoor wrote about Donovan passing while doing what he loved to do.

“Yesterday Danny, like he has done almost every day of every week, started his daily duties at the ball fields at Safety Harbor City Park. During his daily routine he was called to a greater place."

“He left this earth doing what he loved to do. Knowing Danny he is probably getting ready to prepare a baseball field upstairs, and I couldn’t think of anyone more qualified to do so.”

City Park is located at 940 7th St. South in Safety Harbor.
