Downtown Gift Shop Opens Second Location in Safety Harbor

Antiques to Aardvarks II sits just two doors down from its Main Street predecessor.

Alex Sabo opened Antiques to Aardvarks on 3rd Friday in August.

Three months later, on Black Friday, an offshoot of the eclectic Main Street gift shop opened a couple of doors down from the original, at 314 Main St., in Safety Harbor.

β€œWe needed more space," Sabo said earlier this month. "So when the neighboring storefront became available, we decided to open another location."

The new shop, located in the old home of Harbor Accents salon, allows Sabo and his partner, Martha Morrison, the opportunity to showcase their sizable stockpile of collectibles, traditional and kitschy gifts.

It also gives the couple the flexibility of having a place to display larger items, and also as a showcase for gifts for specials occasions; the new shop is currently filled with a wide variety of Christmas themed decorations and gifts.Β

β€œIt’s nice because we have a bigger area for specific occasions like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, weddings,” Sabo said.

β€œThe stores will both feature similar items and have the same eclectic theme," he said. "But the other shop is mostly for small antiques, where this one allows us the opportunity to do bigger things.”

Opening his original store on 3rd Friday and the offshoot on Black Friday made for very successful launches for the businesses, Sabo said.

And coupled with strategic use of both new and traditional types of advertising, he said he and Morrison couldn’t be happier with their first few months downtown

β€œBusiness is good. Life is good!”
