Mullet Creek Park Dedication Ceremony Tomorrow
The 2.5-acre greenspace on the edge of downtown finally gets its grand opening after the new playground equipment was installed.
Prior to its official ribbon cutting, Safety Harbor city officials, residents and visitors have already been hailing Mullet Creek Park as another jewel in the community’s lauded parks system.
The park will finally have its grand opening Saturday morning with a dedication ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. after a three-month delay to allow for the installation of new playground equipment.
Despite the delay officials are thrilled with the 2.5-acre Philippe Parkway greenspace, which took five years from conception to completion at a cost of $433,000, $150,000 of which came from a county block grant.

“We’re all happy with the way the park has turned out and are grateful for the funding assistance received from Pinellas County Community Development Block Grant, without which this park could not have been realized,” Community Planner Ana Mena told Patch via email.
Mena, who has been instrumental in making this longtime dream become a reality for the city, said it was worth the wait to get the right playground equipment in place.

“It fits in perfectly with the theme, look, and landscaping of the park, and we know it’s going to be a fun place for kids to play.”
Community Development Director Matt McLachlan said he is also thrilled to finally have the park officially open after what has been a very lengthy development process.
“It's been a quarter century since the City purchased this property with the intent to build a park,” he explained. “ We're very excited to see the grand opening celebration day finally arrive.”
“The completion of the park is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished through Staff teamwork and community involvement,” McLachlan added. “We can now cross the northern gateway project off our list of goals in the Downtown Master Plan.”
The Mullet Creek park ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. The park is located at the corner of Church Street and Philippe Parkway on the outskirts of downtown Safety Harbor.
