Community Corner

A ribbon cutting, break dancing and lots of live music highlighted the Mardi Gras themed street fest.

It was a banner night in the Harbor for the February edition of 3rd Friday, as the community welcomed a new business to the downtown district and Main Street was alive with the sounds of music.

The night kicked off with the Chamber of Commerce hosting a ribbon-cutting for Franklin Clark Incorporated, a dual business housed in the old Bongos building across from the Gazebo.

Following a major remodel, Clark split the building into two halves; one half will house his financial and tax planning business, while the other side is home to his mother Manuella's custom jewelry boutique.

"This is a great place and the city does such a great job of bringing the community together," Clark said. "That's why we wanted to be here."

"We're hoping by me using this half of the building, as Franklin's business grows I will be able to retire in 15 years," 75-year-old Manuella said in all seriousness.

"This place makes me feel like I'm ten again, like I'm part of a community," she added.

After the ribbon-cutting the party started, with live music nearly at every corner and the street packed with "Fat Friday" revelers.

Patch video specialist Leigh Armstrong was in town to film a video of the event. Look for that piece on the site tomorrow. For now, enjoy these photos!
