Safety Harbor Firefighters Prepare For Propane Emergencies
What are Safety Harbor firefighters learning this month?
Propane emergency training is in full swing for Safety HarborΒ and other North PinellasΒ firefighters.
Fire crews from Safety Harbor,Β Tarpon Springs,Β Dunedin, Palm Harbor, East LakeΒ and Oldsmar are spending a four-hour continuing educationΒ classΒ learning the ins and outs of propane: its characteristics, how it ignites, how it's storedΒ and how to react toΒ emergency situations such as leaks and explosions, saidΒ Erich Thiemann, Dunedin's division chief of training.
The training sessions are running in three-day intervals at the Dunedin Community Center. The first sessions ranΒ Sept. 4-6. They begin againΒ Sept. 10-12.
The "Propane Emergency Response"Β course is funded through theΒ Florida Propane Gas Association Education and Research Council.Β
In the past year, Instructor Carl Weeks has taught 113 courses and more than 1,200 firefighters, he said.Β
