Safety Harbor Preps For 2012 Holiday Parade
The annual event will see a variety of entrants, from Shriners to Santa, make the march up Main Street.
Much like the tree lighting at the Gazebo and the Main Street Trick or Treat, the Safety Harbor Holiday Parade is a time-honored tradition in town.
This year will represent the 32nd edition of the event, which normally features more than 100 entries and even more parade watchers, who will line the route from the Marina to City Hall.
Patch has yet to experience the pageantry of this festive holiday event, but by all accounts, it is a sight to behold.

"I was the grand marshal last year, and boy is it an experience," Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center director Janet Hooper said. "It's such a fun event, and it really brings out the best of Safety Harbor."
This year's grand marshals are Gisela Bennie and Joe Caisse, two Garden Club members who have done more to eradicate pesky vines and beautify the community than most everyone else combined, according to Mayor Andy Steingold.

"My feelings about being named grand marshal alternate between embarrassed and honored," Bennie said. "I do appreciate that Joe C. and I were appointed for this by the city."
"My friends encourage me to feel honored and tell me to practice waving!"
Caisse expressed similar sentiments.
"I'm excited," he said at the tree lighting. "The Garden Club took initiative with the city for public beautification, and I think that's what this is for.
"I never expected it. But I really appreciate it"
According to the press release, expect "over 100 entries including the Shriners, car clubs, antique fire engines, Pinellas County Sheriff's vehicles, clowns, local girl and boy scouts, local dignitaries, local high school band, and much more."
Admission to parade is free. The event begins at 1 p.m. but you better get there early if you want a good view and some choice beads!
