With one week to go before Thanksgiving, many people are deciding whether to dine at home or go somewhere to avoid the hassle of cooking for a small army.

Fortunately, Patch has you covered as far as where you can go - or not go - on Turkey day. Plus, we'll tell you where you can find traditional pies, unconventional cupcakes, and even a unique smoked bird for your dinner.Β

Open for dinner:

Paradise Restaurant

  • Where: 443 Main St.
  • What: The downtown landmark is serving a special menu for Thanksgiving, including fresh roasted turkey with stuffing, lamb shank and ham steak dinners, all served with choice of potato or vegetable, soup or salad and homemade dessert
  • Cost: $9.95, add $2.00 to upgrade dessert to slice of pie
  • When: Thursday, November 22, 7am – 4pm
  • Also: Bring in a canned good and receive a free homemade dessert. Canned donations will go to a local food pantry

Order a turkey:

Brady’s Backyard BBQ

  • Where: 340 Main St.
  • What: Brady’s will be taking its annual smoked turkey orders from now until Thanksgiving Day, but don’t wait till the last minute to order these mouthwatering 11-14-lb. birds. Brady says he will only have about 20-25 available, and once they’re preordered, they’re gone.
  • Cost: $49.95
  • When: Order the turkeys now for pick-up either the day before Thanksgiving after 11:30am or on Thanksgiving Day between 10am – 11am only

Traditional desserts:

Peace, Love and Cake

  • Where: 839 Main St.
  • What: Fresh pies, cakes, cupcakes and all sorts of tasty pastry treats. Owner Sarah Hill says she will have all the traditional favorite pies like pumpkin, apple, pecan and key lime, as well as wide assortment of additional desserts
  • Cost: Prices vary
  • When: Order up until Thanksgiving Day

Other:

First Quality Sausage House

  • Where: 605 9th Ave. N.
  • What: The longtime butcher shop/bakery fills many needs during the holiday season, with everything from its fresh smoked meats to its homemade breads. Looking for a delicious dessert? The fresh strudel at the Sausage House is the stuff of legend, according to owner Aniko Rakozci.

-The Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center will host its annual free Thanksgiving meal again this year on Thanksgiving Day. The facility, located at 1003 Dr. Martin Luther King Street North, feeds not only the homeless and underprivileged, but anyone who wishes to spend the holiday in the company of others in the community.
