Winter the Dolphin: Movie Sequel

It was only a matter of time before beloved Winter the dolphin would resurface in another big-screen family drama.

Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that "Dolphin Tale 2" will open in theaters across the nation on Sept. 19, 2014, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The film is a sequel to the 2011 blockbuster, which created a fictional story around the rescue of Winter and her rehabilitation at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where she resides today.

Filming on the sequel will start later this year at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. "Dolphin Tale 2" will introduce Hope, another injured Dolphin, and focus on her friendship with Winter.

The original human cast, including Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman, may return for the sequel.
