17-Year-Old Student Killed; Sarasota School Performances Canceled
Sarasota County Schools canceled all weekend drama performances following an overnight crash that claimed the life of a student,

SARASOTA, FL -- Following an overnight crash that claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl, Sarasota County Schools on Saturday canceled all scheduled drama performances for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
"There was a tragic accident last night involving a North Port High School student," said Tracey Long Beeker of Sarasota County Schools on Saturday.
Beeker said counseling services will also be available for any students affected by the tragedy.

North Port police said the girl was killed when a 2010 Blue Toyota SUV loaded with 13 people inside and on the roof failed to negotiate a curve and overturned.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:39 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Joewood Circle and Genip Court.

"Upon arrival, it was discovered that a 17-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene," said North Port police. "Three other passengers of the car were taken to area hospitals for treatment, two of them by Bayflite."
The driver has been identified as Stephanie G. Evrard, who turned 19 on March 23.
"Investigators established probable cause that Ms. Evrard was operating a motor vehicle under the influence during a crash involving a death," said North Port police. "She is charged with one count of DUI Manslaughter and three counts of DUI with Personal injury."
The victim’s names were not immediately released by North Port police.
