2 Killed In U.S. 41 Crash In Sarasota County: FL Highway Patrol
A third person was seriously injured in the Sunday afternoon crash on U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
SARASOTA, FL — Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a Sunday afternoon crash on U.S. 41 in Sarasota County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
A car was traveling north in the outside travel lane of U.S. 41, approaching the intersection of Seminole Drive, just before 1:30 p.m.
At the same time, an SUV was heading east on Seminole Drive, approaching the intersection of U.S. 41.

When both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, the SUV hit the left side of the car, FHP said.
Investigators are working to determine which vehicle entered the intersection on the green traffic signal, the agency said.

After the crash, the car hit a traffic control cabinet, control mast and sign.
The driver and passenger — a 37-year-old San Antonio woman and a 37-year-old Alachua man — were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.
Another passenger in the car, a 23-year-old Gainesville man, was brought to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The 80-year-old man driving the SUV and his passenger, an 80-year-old woman, both of Venice, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
