Sarasta Police Find Drugs, Gun In Car

Two Sarasota men were arrested early Friday after police discovered suspected marijuana, cocaine and a handgun in their car.

SARASOTA, FL -- Two Sarasota men were arrested early Friday after police discovered suspected marijuana, cocaine and a handgun in their car.

Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department said officers stopped the car around 3:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of N. Washington Boulevard after it was clocked doing 61 mph in a 45 mph zone with high beams on.

Twenty-one-year-old Rashaad Williams and 20-year-old Ke’Andre Walker are both facing multiple charges stemming from the incident.

"When 0fficers exited their vehicle, they noticed Walker making hand movements around him," Judge said. "When officers approached the vehicle, they immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Williams, the passenger, looked back and made hand movements under his seat and towards passenger side door."

She said Walker and Williams were asked to step out of the vehicle and Williams handed officers a plastic bag containing marijuana. Police said they found a Glock 22 firearm, .40 caliber live round in the glove compartment, small plastic bag of cocaine, scale, two plastic bags of marijuana and small plastic bags.

Williams is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana more than 20 grams. Williams has a felony conviction from August 2016.

Walker is charged with two misdemeanor offenses: no valid driver’s license and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

In all, Officers seized:

  • Glock 22 firearm
  • 13 .40 caliber live rounds of ammunition
  • 62 grams of marijuana
  • 3 grams of cocaine
  • Digital Scale

Williams and Walker were being held at the Sarasota County Jail.
