5 Things: Orioles Military Appreciation Night

The Baltimore Orioles will host Military Appreciation Day on Saturday while taking on the Washington Nationals at Ed Smith Stadium.

The game starts at 1:05 p.m.

All active, retired or reserve military members, as well as Department of Defense employees, can receive $3 off any lower box, reserved grandstand or left field pavilion ticket at the Ed Smith Stadium box office with proper ID.  In addition, the first 2,000 fans age 21 and over will receive an Orioles Stars and Stripes T-shirt courtesy of Budweiser.

Master Sgt. Bob McDonald will sing the National Anthem before the game. McDonald is in his 18th year of active duty military service in the United States Army.  Based at Fort Myer, Virginia, he has sung at notable events including a 2001 prayer service at Ground Zero, presidential inaugurations and funerals, and the Orioles’ win over the Red Sox in the final game of the 2011 season.

2. The is inviting the community out for a free screening of Megamind at  at 8 p.m. tonight. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, as well as their own food and beverages. Tickets for the 2012 Film Festival go on sale this morning at 11 a.m. online and at the Film Festival box office inside the lobby.

3. A movie that made its U.S. premiere at the 2011 Sarasota Film Festival is breathing another life. Circus Dreams is set to air on WUSF at 1:30 p.m., April 1. WUSF will rebroadcast Circus Dreams on April 25, April 27 and again on May 1. The movie follows the adventures of a troupe of teens and tweens who astonish and delight audiences around New England on a Big Top Tour. 

4. The 17th annual Give Hunger The Blues festival is this weekend. It happens Sunday at 1930 Hillview St. in Southside Village. It's the All Faiths Food Bank's biggest single day fundraiser. This year's headliner is The Lee Boys, who hail from Miami. Admission is $5 and children under 12 are free. For more info, visit http://givinghungertheblues.org.

5. Keeping with the theme of hunger, water company AquaNew is running a contest with its Thirst Games mission to distribute water to critical areas of the world. The contest wants your conservation or fundraising ideas (or one you’ve already done) in 800 words or fewer for a chance to win. The winner will receive 12 bottles of Watt-Aah and four free movie tickets to see The Hunger Games. AquaNew will also donate $200 to ChildHelp® in the winner’s name.
