5 Things To Know: Country Star Kevin Welch Performs At WSLR

1. Country music star Kevin Welch will perform at a show to benefit next week.

Welch moved to Nashville in 1978 to work as a songwriter.  Singers like Ricky Skaggs, Moe Bandy, Waylon Jennings, Patty Loveless, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and Don Williams have used his material. Welch will perform Friday, June 8 at 525 Kumquat Court. Tickets are $12 in advance/$15 at the door.

2. What do you think about your electric bill? Too high, low, just right?  9:30 a.m Thursday in City Hall about its rate increase. The increase would add $7.09 to the average household monthly bill for 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.

3. Time for some pre-summer cleaning.

Sarasota County will have its annual community cleanup in the area of Proctor and Wilkinson roads from 8 a.m.to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9. 

Dumpsters will be available at two Sarasota locations for materials from residents:

• Sarasota County Technical Institute (SCTI), 4748 Beneva Road at the intersection of Proctor Road, in the south parking lot.

• Bee Ridge Park in the softball field parking lot west of Lockwood Ridge Road on Wilkinson Road.
