5 Things To Know: Meet County Commission Candidates Tonight
Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Association will host a County Commission Candidates forum tonight at the Sarasota Garden Club.

1. Meet some of the folks running for County Commission tonight at the Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Association meeting.
The County Commission Candidate Forum will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, at the , 1131 Boulevard of the Arts. Attendees are expected to include District 3 candidate and Commission Chairwoman Christine Robinson and District 5 candidates Charles Hines, Randy McLendon and Brian Slider.

A street party called Above the Falls & Beyond Belief will take place Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight at Mattison's and on Lemon Avenue between Main and First streets. The street party is free and includes the walk on a big screen, activities for kids of all ages, food and drink specials at Mattison's including some VIP offerings for $100. Fifty dollars of that is tax deductible as it serves as a fundraiser for Circus Sarasota. For reservations call 941-921-3400 or purchase VIP tickets at www.mattisons.com.

4. Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Ed McCrane will be the featured presenter at a community disaster orientation “Applying the Lessons Learned.” The free event takes place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Imagine School in Palmer Ranch, 6220 McIntosh Road, Sarasota.
The program will include an overview of Sarasota County Emergency Management and a glimpse into this coming hurricane season by McCrane. There also will be presentations on the Sarasota Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) by the coalition’s Chair Stewart Sterns and “How You Can Get Involved” by Mindi Rohan, Executive Director of Volunteer Community Connection.

5. Voting precincts will be consolidated this year in Sarasota County and the Supervisor of Elections will host a meeting 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, to explain the changes as well as about the recent redistricting.
