83-Year-Old Man Critically Injured In Bicycle Crash

SARASOTA, FL -- An 83-year-old Sarasota man was seriously injured late Monday afternoon when his bicycle collided with a Hyundai Accent. The incident occurred at Bee Ridge Road and Radnor Place, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Sandor Rendeczky was listed in critical condition following the crash, which occurred at 4:11 p.m., FHP said.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as 30-year-old Monica Lee Wells, also of Sarasota. She was not injured.

Florida Highway Patrol said that Wells was traveling west in the left lane of Bee Ridge Road just west of Radnor Place while Rendeczky was traveling in the same direction on the sidewalk prior to the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol said Rendecky "began to ride his bicycle southbound across the right lane, the center lane and into the path" of the Hyundai. He was thrown from the bicycle following impact.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
