9/11 Events In Sarasota, Bradenton To Honor Lives Lost In Sept. 11 Attacks
Events are scheduled in Sarasota and Manatee counties on Thursday to honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
SARASOTA-BRADENTON, FL — Americans across the country will honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in the Washington, D.C. area and United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania on Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the events.
The following ceremonies commemorating 9/11 will take place in Sarasota and Manatee counties:
Sarasota County Fire Department

The Sarasota County Fire Department will hold a 9/11 commemoration and moment of silence on Thursday, 9:30 a.m., at the Emergency Services Fire Department Administration building, 6062 Porter Way, Sarasota. The event runs until 11 a.m.
Sarasota National Cemetery

Volunteers are sought for Thursday, Patriot Day, at Sarasota National Cemetery in honor of 9/11. Those participating will clean headstones and beautify the grounds from 9:30 am. To 1 p.m. Register to volunteer online.
State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota
The college’s Veterans Services office and Student Veterans of America club will host 9/11 memorial ceremonies on both local campuses. The ceremony at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, is set for 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., while the ceremony at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th Street W., will take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. SCF President Tommy Gregory, J.D., a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, will serve as the guest speaker and make remarks at SCF Bradenton.
USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus
A 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place Thursday morning at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, in Sarasota. A flag raising ceremony and playing of “Taps” takes place at 8:15 a.m. at the campus entrance. A remembrance program starts at 8:30 .m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
Venice 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
The city of Venice will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Thursday morning at Patriots Park, 800 Venetia Bay Blvd. The ceremony begins at 9:59 a.m. The event will include guest speakers and tributes, a presentation of the colors, a proclamation by the mayor, student participation, and music.
