
is hosting local auditions by appointment for the 2012-2013 season on April 14, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 23, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The production team is looking to cast both Equity and non-Equity roles for the season opener, 1776, (non-Equity roles listed below) and for various roles throughout the 2012-2013 season. Full information regarding the available Equity roles can be found on the AEA casting notice website, www.actorsequity.org. Actors must be available to attend callbacks on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Auditions will be held in 5 minute slots in the Asolo Rep Rehearsal Hall, located within the main Asolo Rep building. To schedule an appointment, please call the audition hotline at (941) 351-9010 x 3311 and leave a message with your name, contact number, preferred time slot and whether you are doing a Dramatic or Musical audition. For Dramatic Auditions please prepare two contrasting monologues, no more than three minutes total. For Musical Auditions please prepare either a brief song (musical theatre, pop/rock, or gospel) or 16 bars of a song and a one-minute contemporary monologue. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring two copies of your headshot and resume, glued or copied together.

[STEPHEN HOPKINS] Late 50’s – Early 70’s.Baritone.Major role, alcoholic codger, irreverent, nobody's fool.
[ANDREW MCNAIR] Late 50’s – Early 70’s. Some singing/Baritone, working class, burdened but attentive; Congress's custodian.
[REV. JOHN WITHERSPOON] Early 40’s – Late 50’s. Lean and ascetic clergyman, singing not required.
[CAESAR RODNEY] Late 30’s – Early 50’s. Infirm but passionate; slowly weakening physically, but mentally sharp. Some singing.
[CHARLES THOMSON] Late 30’s – Early 50’s.Bass or Baritone; major role, pedantic but dedicated.
[GEORGE READ] Early 30’s – Late 40’s.Baritone; small, reedy-voiced; argumentative.
[COL. THOMAS MCKEAN] Early 30’s – Late 40’s.Baritone. Florid, large, booming, likes his food. Touch of Scots brogue.
[JAMES WILSON] Early 20’s – Late 30’s.Baritone; a cautious sycophant.Hesitant, always in the shadows.
[DR. JOSIAH BARTLETT] Late 30’s – Early 50’s.Baritone.Quiet, even keel.Reserved but strong.
[LEWIS MORRIS] Early 40’s – Mid 50’s.Baritone.Quiet, reserved, apologetic. Unwilling to take a stand until pushed to the breaking point.
[SAMUEL CHASE] Late 20’s – Late 30’s.Bass-Baritone; portly, jovial, good-natured.
[JOSEPH HEWES] Late 30’s – Early 50’s.Baritone.Reserved, thoughtful, and calm.
[LEATHER APRON] Any age.Some singing; working class.Earnest and hard-working, a bit rough around the edges.
[A PAINTER] Singing not required; mini-cameo, non-speaking. Refined and artistic.Will be doubled with another role.
Most Equity roles for the 2011-2012 season have been cast from our resident company. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. All roles except bit parts are understudied. Asolo Repertory Theatre is committed to equal opportunity employment and a flexible, non-traditional casting policy.
