Dist. 1 Forum Slated for Thursday

District 1 City Commissioner Willie Shaw will host a community forum at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pines of Sarasota, 1501 North Orange Avenue.

Shaw will provide an update on initiatives occurring within District 1 and answer constituent questions. Residents, business owners and District 1 stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

Discussion topics include:

• community policing,

• Mediterranean Apartments,

• youth empowerment,

• North Trail Partnership,

• 17th and Orange drainage project,

• North Sarasota library,

• North Sarasota workforce initiative, and

• Marian Anderson Place.

Shaw has served as the District 1 City Commissioner since May 2011. He represents the City Commission on the Juvenile Justice Council of the Department of Justice/Juvenile Assessment Center Advisory Committee, Enterprise Zone Redevelopment Agency, the Sarasota County Community Action Agency Board and the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council.

The boundaries of District 1 roughly are University Parkway to the north; Fruitville Road to the south; N. Tamiami Trail to the west and Tuttle Avenue to the east.
