Bicyclist Killed In Longboat Key

LONGBOAT KEY, FL -- A man was killed Monday in Longboat Key after his bicycle was involved in a collision with a vehicle.

"Preliminary information is that this is a bicycle versus vehicle fatality crash," explained Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department which is handling the investigation.

Judge said the incident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of Gulf Mexico Drive.

"The bicyclist, an adult male, was transported from the scene to Blake Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead," Judge told Patch. " The crash remains under investigation."

She said the Sarasota Police Department is working with the Longboat Key Police Department on the investigation.

"Our Traffic Unit is conducting this investigation for the Longboat Key Police Department because they currently do not have any traffic homicide investigators," she said.
