Body Found at Bus Station; No Evidence of Foul Play, Cops Say

A woman was unresponsive and later ruled dead at the downtown SCAT Bus Transfer Station, according to Sarasota Police.

A woman's body was found early Friday morning at a Sarasota bus station, authorities report.

Sarasota Police officers were waved down by a group of people around 4 a.m. Friday after the woman was unresponsive at the downtown SCAT Bus Transfer Station, officials said.

The woman, "who appears to be homeless," was later determined to be dead by officers on the scene, according to police spokesperson Genevieve Judge.

"Officers believe the female was staying at the station to avoid the storms that passed through the area," Judge said in a media release.

An initial investigation by police shows no evidence of foul play, officials said. The body is being sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.

Officers are checking for video from the scene as they continue their investigation, Judge said.
