Death Investigation Underway At Sarasota Correctional Facility

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday it was conducting a death investigation involving an inmate at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility.

"Because it is still extremely early in the investigation, detectives are still working to notify next of kin," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said. "Details, including the detainee’s identity and charges will be released as they become available."

The spokesperson said deputies were alerted to a possible suicide attempt within the facility at around 3 p.m.

"Deputies and medical staff responded and rendered life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful," according to the spokesperson. "Paramedics responded and pronounced the man deceased at 3:24 p.m."
