Emerson Lakes Offers Peace of Mind for Future Residents

Ellen and Kevin Kleinschmidt appreciate the value and predictability that Emerson Lakes' financial structure provides

When Kevin and Ellen Kleinschmidt began exploring their senior living options, they sought a community that offered a vibrant, worry-free lifestyle at the best value.

"We didn't want to worry about finances and have the responsibility of taking care of a house," says Ellen, noting that their single-family house has become a chore. "Plus, we no longer need four bedrooms and three baths or a three-car garage."

So, when the couple discovered Emerson Lakes, a future Erickson Senior Living community bringing impressive amenities and maintenance-free residences to Lakewood Ranch, Fla., they knew they had found their next home.

Predictability is key

Kevin and Ellen heard about the plans for Emerson Lakes from their son, Andy, who works as a sales associate at Riderwood, another Erickson Senior Living community in Silver Spring, Md.

Since they live in Ruskin, Fla., about 30 minutes north of Lakewood Ranch, it made sense for them to consider the new community.

Having recently replaced the roof on their house, the community's maintenance-free residences were a significant draw. Kevin notes that he enjoys working outdoors, but it can become overwhelming and expensive--especially since their pool and spacious yard require regular attention.

For Emerson Lakes residents, a monthly service package will bundle the costs of utilities; maintenance, including appliance repair and replacement; a meal plan at on-site restaurants; landscaping; and more into one predictable bill.

Moving to Emerson Lakes will eliminate other significant financial responsibilities as well. Residents will no longer pay homeowner's insurance, homeowners association fees, or community development district payments, all of which can fluctuate in the volatile Florida market.

So much to gain

Kevin and Ellen joined the Emerson Lakes Priority List to secure their spot in line for a residence while they completed their research. But, after learning about the predictable, inclusive monthly service package, they didn't need to look much further.

They reserved a two-bedroom, two-bath home with a screened lanai on the top floor of their residence building, which will provide breathtaking views of the Florida sunset.

The Kleinschmidts feel confident in their decision, knowing exactly what their expenses will be and the value they will receive in return.

"When you think about what we're leaving and what we're gaining, it's going to be quite an advantage being at Emerson Lakes," Ellen says. "We will pay one bill a month as opposed to 16 bills. It's going to be an emotional advantage as well as a financial advantage."

Sales Director Adam Zubowsky agrees with that perspective, saying, "The monthly service package removes a lot of stress. Finding contractors, getting experts to call you back, and paying a fee for labor, parts, and replacement are a hassle, to say the least. Without these responsibilities, you'll have more free time to pursue hobbies and activities."

Peace of mind

Kevin and Ellen's peace of mind is strengthened by Emerson Lakes' in-depth storm preparation--something they've had to plan for and worry about themselves in the past. (Not to mention the costly aftermath cleanup.)

Emerson Lakes' builders are using concrete, cinderblock, metal roofing, and hurricane-grade windows--rated to resist high-impact winds.

All residence buildings and clubhouses will also be equipped with backup generators, ensuring that medical devices and elevators remain operational. These generators will also be connected to on-campus restaurants, allowing dining staff members to continue preparing and serving meals.

"Hearing about everything planned for Emerson Lakes gives us peace of mind," says Ellen.

A renaissance retirement

Without the hassles of homeownership in sight, the Kleinschmidts consider their future at Emerson Lakes to be a renaissance.

Kevin plans to exercise in the state-of-the-art fitness center, play pickleball, and join a gardening club. Ellen, a retired music teacher and musical theater actress, would like to join a chorus or theater group. She and her therapy dog, a mini goldendoodle, are particularly excited about the on-site dog park.

The convenience of the medical center, open for wellness visits, flu shots, tests, and screenings, is an added benefit. In fact, Kevin and Ellen have already decided to transition their primary care to the physicians on campus once they move in.

They are also eager to share meals with new neighbors at the community's restaurants, which will serve fresh, made-to-order meals created by expert chefs.

"We like meeting people," Kevin says. "We can't wait to join in on the fun and make a new group of friends at Emerson Lakes!"
