SARASOTA-BRADENTON, FL — Check out some of the restaurant openings and closings in the Sarasota and Bradenton area last year:
Oar & Iron Scratch Kitchen Opens in Manatee County
A new seafood and steak scratch kitchen concept recently opened in Manatee County. Oar & Iron Raw Bar & Grill, Florida’s third location, is open at 8710 U.S. 301 N., according to the Florida-based chain’s website.

FL Dog Bar Expands Footprint With New Location
St.Petersburg's Dog Bar expanded with a new location in Sarasota this summer, owners said.

Mattison’s City Grille Opens Airport Eatery
Mattison’s opened a new eatery at the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. Concourse B welcomed Mattison’s City Grille in June, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. It joins other local brands, including Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Patricks 1481.
Food Truck Partners with Music Venue
A popular local food truck, Smokin Momma Lora’s BBQ and More, has partnered with The Parrot Live, as the bar and music venue’s “exclusive food truck provider,” according to a social media post.
Former NFL Player Opening The Peach Cobbler Factory In Bradenton
Former NFL player Michael Lehan held the grand opening of The Peach Cobbler Factory in Bradenton earlier this year.
French Restaurant Closes on Siesta Key
After more than a decade, a Siesta Key French restaurant shut its doors in June. Bonjour French Café at 5214 Ocean Blvd. initially opened in 2012.
Naples Tex-Mex Chain Eyes Sarasota Expansion
The Naples-based chain Tacos & Tequila Cantina is looking to expand into the Sarasota area, the Business Observer reported in June. The company’s founder Kelly Musico is partnering with HMC Hospitality Group, the original owners of Hooters, to find potential locations for the brand in Sarasota County.
Pinball Cafe Opens in Downtown Bradenton
Ballerz Pinball Cafe opened this summer in downtown Bradenton at 412 Old Main Street, the Bradenton Herald said. The space features 13 pinball machines and a handful of arcade video games.
Michelin-Trained Chef Brings New Restaurant to Sarasota’s Southside Village
Southside Village welcomed a new restaurant earlier this year. Alma de España opened at 1830 S. Osprey Ave., the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported in August. The restaurant serves Spanish tapas and grill dishes. The concept is led by Chef Elier Rodriguez, who got his start working for Michelin-starred restaurants across the country.
Yoder’s Pie Craft Coffee Company Opens
Yoder’s Restaurant & Amish Village opened an offshoot, “a small coffee shop,” Yoder’s Pie Craft Coffee Company earlier this year, according to an announcement made on Facebook. The new coffee and dessert shop comes as Yoder’s celebrates 50 years since it first opened in the Sarasota area.
Texas Roadhouse Headed to Parrish
A second Texas Roadhouse is planned for Manatee County with a location in Parrish planned, the Bradenton Herald reported earlier this year. The restaurant will move into commercial space in the Seaire community, just east of Interstate 75 and south of Moccasin Wallow Road.
Ed’s Tavern Expands in Manatee County
Local sports bar Ed’s Tavern opened its third location in Manatee County. The new restaurant is in the Gateway Commons shopping center in Parrish off Buffalo Road, near Moccasin Wallow Road and Interstate 75.
Toasted Mango Cafe Opens on Anna Maria Island
The Toasted Mango Cafe, which originally opened its first restaurant in downtown Sarasota in 2011, has opened its first location — and third total — in Manatee County, the Bradenton Herald reported in March. The new restaurant is on Anna Maria Island at 3240 E. Bay Drive in Holmes Beach.
Lakewood Ranch Restaurant Closes
McGrath’s Kitchen & Cocktails in Lakewood Ranch closed its doors for good at the end of May, the restaurant shared in a social media post. The owners said they were closing the Irish restaurant to focus on expanding their Ed’s Tavern brand and other business ventures.
Raw Bar Opens in Downtown Bradenton
Shuck It Raw Bar and Steamer House opened in May in downtown Bradenton. The space was previously home to the Old Main Pub and then the Bamboozer Bar and Grill, the Bradenton Herald said.
Doughnut Shop Closes Original Location
Five-O Donut Co. recently closed its original location in the Shops at Siesta Row at 2241 Ringling Blvd., according to a Facebook post by the company.
Champagne Bar With $150 Minimum Tab Sets Opening Date In Sarasota
A new champagne bar with a $150 minimum tab for those who make reservations for indoor seating opened in March. The upscale lounge, Sugar Champagne Bar, at the corner of South Pineapple and Lemon avenues in downtown Sarasota, is housed in a pink building with a design inspired by Old Regency Florida, and offers a curated selection of champagnes, wines, spirits, and canapés.
Whataburger Planning Second Manatee County Location
A year after filing paperwork for its first Manatee County location, Whataburger is already planning its second for the Bradenton area, the Bradenton Herald reported in August. The Texas-based chain has filed to open a restaurant on Cortez Road.
Applebee’s, Chili’s Locations Close On Same Day
Two chain restaurants closed in the Sarasota area, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. The Chili’s Bar & Grill on South Tamiami Trail, near Trader Joe’s, shut its doors for good on May 18. Meanwhile, the Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar at 3255 University Parkway closed down the same day.
Bradenton Boiler Room Reopens
The Bradenton Boiler Room reopened in July under a new name, the AMI Sun reported. The Boiler Room Bar and Grill at 5600 Manatee Ave. W. is under new ownership after closing in 2020. The shop chose not to renew the lease at that location.
LongHorn Steakhouse Opens
A new LongHorn Steakhouse is open in Bradenton. The chain’s newest Manatee County location is in the Marketplace at Heritage Harbour shopping center at 4502 14th Street W., which is anchored by Costco, the Bradenton Herald said.
Hawaiian Coffee Shop Opening in Sarasota
Bad Ass Coffee, which was founded on Hawaii’s Big Island, recently opened in the Sarasota area. The new coffee shop is located at 6588 University Parkway in Lakewood Ranch’s Center Point development.
Tampa Restaurants Expanding into Sarasota, Bradenton Area
Two popular Tampa restaurants are expanding into the University Town Center next year. Olivia and On Swann, both by award-winning Chef Chris Ponte, are set to open back-to-back locations in the West District of the shopping, dining and entertainment destination, according to a news release.
Ice Cream Shop In FL Tourist Area Reopens Nearly A Year After Hurricane Milton
A popular Sarasota ice cream and candy shop reopened in St. Armands Circle in September after being damaged in Hurricane Milton.
James-Beard Nominated Restaurateurs Opens Japanese Concept At UTC
James-Beard-nominated restaurateurs who have a Michelin star opened an upscale, modern Japanese restaurant in the UTC area.
Flemings Opens in Manatee County
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar opened its new Manatee County location in February, the Bradenton Herald reported. It opened at 8306 Tourist Center Drive, Bradenton, the former Ruby Tuesday location.
Adeline Owners Open New Restaurant in Southside Village
Mimi Brasserie & Speakeasy recently opened in Sarasota’s Southside Village, taking over the space at 1920 Hillview Street, which was previously home to Adeline. Mimi’s is co-owned and co-founded by Edward Zaki and Drew Adams. Adams was the original owner of Adeline, initially called Meliora when it opened in 2022, before bringing on Zaki two years later.
Cheese Shop to Stay Open Thanks to Fundraiser
Artisan Cheese Company in Sarasota’s Rosemary District will stay open after announcing its closure in May thanks to community support, WFLA reported. Not only did shoppers stop by the store in the days after the announcement, but more than $40,000 was raised through a GoFundMe fundraiser to save the cheese shop.
Longboat Key Italian Restaurant Expands into Bradenton
Longboat Key’s Ventura’s Italian Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant known for its rustic charm, New York-style pizza and handcrafted Italian dishes, has expanded into Bradenton, according to a news release. Its newest location is at 4805 Cortez Road.
Kona Grill Closes
Denver-based chain Kona Grill closed its location at the University Town Center in June, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
