Explosive Device Washed Up In Hurricane Helene Storm Surge: FL Sheriff
An explosive used in commercial blasting was washed up in front of a Sarasota County home by Hurricane Helene storm surge, SCSO said.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — An explosive device was found washed up by storm surge caused by Hurricane Helene in front of a Mangrove Point Road home Sunday morning, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies responded to reports of “a suspicious device” in front of the home just after 10 a.m.
They determined it was an explosive used in commercial blasting operations and wasn’t suspicious, the sheriff’s office said.

The SCSO Hazardous Devices Unit removed and detonated the device in a controlled environment away from the area.
There was no threat to residents in the neighborhood, the sheriff’s office said.
