Motorists were being asked to stay away from a stretch of Higel Avenue Thursday afternoon.
SARASOTA, FL — Update: Higel Avenue has reopened to traffic following a Thursday afternoon fire.
Earlier: The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is asking motorists to avoid a stretch of Higel Avenue Thursday afternoon.
According to the agency, a fire that broke out in the 3900 block of Hamilton Club Circle has impacted traffic on Higel Avenue.

Higel Avenue, the sheriff’s office said, is closed down in both directions near Hamilton Club Circle. How long the closing might last remains unclear.
