FL Boy, 8, On Dirt Bike Hospitalized After Crash With Officer: SPD
The boy was hospitalized in St. Pete with serious injuries after a Monday evening crash with an officer, Sarasota police said.

SARASOTA, FL — An 8-year-old boy who was riding a dirt bike remains hospitalized after a Monday evening crash involving a Sarasota police officer.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of 23rd Street and Maple Avenue, police said.
The officer was leaving a different call at the time of the crash, which shut down the area from the 2100 block to the 2400 block of Maple Avenue during an investigation into it.

The child, who was seriously injured, was brought to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he underwent surgery Monday night.
“This morning he remains under the care of medical professionals, surrounded by family. Our thoughts are with the child and their loved ones during this challenging time,” police said.

The officer involved in the crash wasn’t injured and is on restricted administrative duties.
