FL Heat Advisory Prompts Safety Precautions In Sarasota: DOH
With a heat advisory issued in southwest Florida, Department of Health officials urged precautions and safety measures for residents.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — With a heat advisory issued in southwest and west central Florida, Department of Health officials in Sarasota County are urging residents to take necessary precautions and safety measures.
The advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay. Heat index values up to 112 degrees are expected.
“With temperatures soaring and heat indexes reaching dangerous levels, it is important to prioritize the well-being of individuals and communities,” the FDOH in Sarasota said in a news release.

To minimize the risk of heat-related illnesses and emergencies, the agency suggests that residents should:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Stay cool and avoid direct sunlight and long exposure to the sun.
- Check on vulnerable individuals, such as elderly neighbors, young children and those with pre-existing health conditions.
- Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
