Florida Experiences Large One-Day Spike In Coronavirus Cases
FL health officials reported 2,581 coronavirus cases Saturday, one of the largest one-day spikes in new cases since the outbreak began.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 2,581 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, one of the largest one-day spikes in new cases in the state since the outbreak began.
Seventeen counties reported 48 new deaths on Saturday over the previous 24-hour period.
That compares to 30 news deaths Friday, 47 new deaths Thursday, 36 on Wednesday, 54 new deaths Tuesday, 12 on Monday, 12 on Sunday and 28 last Saturday.

Health officials reported 168 new hospitalizations across Florida over the previous 24-hour period.

The total number of cases climbed to 73,552, up from 70,971 a day earlier. The state's death toll rose to 2,925, up from 2,877 a day earlier.
Miami-Dade reported 13 new deaths Saturday. Palm Beach County reported nine new deaths. Broward County reported seven new deaths.
Lee County reported three new deaths. Brevard County reported two new deaths as did Sarasota County and St. Lucie County.
Charlotte County reported one new death as did Collier County, Escambia County, Hendry County, Lake County, Manatee County, Martin County, Polk County, Seminole County and Volusia County.
Miami-Dade reported 21,633 cases of the virus Saturday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 8,864 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 8,442 cases.
Florida had a 5.4 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 1,371,401 tests that had been administered as of Saturday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 11,874from 11,706 a day earlier.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 3,504 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 2,937 cases.
