Lido Beach has undergone four major renourishment projects, the most recent in 2009, according to the city of Sarasota. That project restored more than 1.5 miles of beach to its pristine condition prior to the devastating 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.
Not only is Lido Beach popular with residents and tourists for recreational use, it provides coastal storm protection for upland roads. It also serves as a nesting location for shorebirds and sea turtles.
The ASBPA was established in 1926 as an organized effort to battle beach erosion throughout the United States.
