Mother's Day Contest Honorable Mention

Paying tribute to moms.

The had more than 90 entries, and we wanted to highlight a Sarasota entry.

Just because it wasn't selected a winner doesn't mean this mom should go unnoticed. You can see the picture that Lisa Ledwith contributed of her mother with this story. Below she shares a heartfelt story of how she lost her mom at a young age due to cancer.

If you want to share a story about your Mom, we’d love to hear it! Just add it in the comments section. We'd love to see photos of your Mom added to the gallery in this story, too!

Dearest Mom,
You earned your wings 37 yrs ago in 1975 I was just 15. But I hope you can feel my love for you. I only had you a short 15 years, not nearly long enough. Cancer stole you from our lives & hearts.
But in those short 15 years you taught me SO MUCH! To always be a kind, loving & giving human being.

To treat other's as I would want them to treat me & to love unconditionally. To be honest, never to lie, steal or cheat. You raised me to be strong with morals Mom. I am 7 yrs older than you were when you were taken from us & it bother's me that I will never know what you would have looked like with gray hair & wrinkles. Silly, I know. I miss you something awful and I always will.
I did my very best to raise my 2 children, the same way you raised me. You always taught me, to be grateful for what I have, even if it is not enough, because some people have nothing. You taught me If I had nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all!

Everything I am today is because of you! I was so very blessed to have had YOU FOR MY MOTHER, even if just for 15 years. This upcoming Mother's Day, I send all of my love & hugs to you Mom. I pray you know that I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH YOU AND LOVE YOU!

My Precious Mom, YOU WILL AWAYS BE THE BEST IN US AND YOU ROCK!
