Motorcyclist Suffers Serious Injuries In Sarasota Crash

SARASOTA, FL -- A motorcyclist was seriously injured early Monday morning when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson and crashed into a truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. at U.S. 41 and Laurel Road.

Florida Highway Patrol said 33-year-old Marvin Adkins of Albany, Kentucky was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but Adkins was cited for careless driving.

The driver of the Volvo truck was identified as 28-year-old Taylor Sexton of Port Charlotte. He was not injured.

The crash occurred as Adkins was traveling north on U.S. 41 in the center lane approaching the intersection of Laurel Road.

The truck was stopped in traffic in the right northbound lane of US 41, just south of Laurel road.

Adkins "abruptly applied the brakes and begun to lose control"of his motorcycle, which collided with the left side of the truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol. He was thrown from the motorcycle.
